Sustainability at Rose & Co. Botanicals

At Rose & Co., sustainability is not a claim; it is a practice embedded in every stage of our process. From the way we grow and harvest botanicals to how we formulate, package and ship our products, we are continually seeking ways to tread more lightly on the earth.

Farm-to-Face Beauty

At Rose & Co., we believe beautiful skincare begins long before a product reaches your hands. It begins in the soil, in the care given to each plant, and in the relationship between nature and maker.

On our farm in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales, we grow many of the botanicals used throughout our skincare and perfume collections using organic and biodynamic principles. Roses, geraniums and citrus are harvested by hand and transformed into hydrosols, extracts and tinctures that become part of our formulations. Other botanicals, including patchouli, vetiver, witch hazel, orris and tansy, are currently being established for future use.

Healthy soil sits at the heart of this process. Through composting, worm farms, rainwater harvesting and regenerative growing practices, we work to nurture a thriving ecosystem that supports both plant health and biodiversity.

While not every ingredient can be grown on our property, our commitment is to cultivate, harvest, distil and extract as many botanicals as possible ourselves, bringing the journey between plant and product closer together. We call this Farm-to-Face Beauty — a philosophy that honours the land, celebrates the intelligence of plants and creates a deeper connection between the ingredients we grow and the products we create.

Organic & Biodynamic Growing Principles

The health of our products begins with the health of our soil. At Rose & Co., we grow our botanicals using organic and biodynamic principles that support the long-term vitality of the land rather than seeking short-term gains. By focusing on soil health, we create an environment where plants can thrive naturally, developing the resilience, complexity and aromatic richness for which they are valued.

Healthy soil is nurtured through composting, worm farms and the continual return of organic matter back to the earth. These practices help build soil structure, encourage beneficial microbial life and create a living ecosystem that supports both plant growth and biodiversity. We believe that healthy, thriving soil is one of nature's most valuable resources and forms the foundation of everything we grow.

We also work in harmony with the seasons, allowing nature's rhythms to guide planting, harvesting and land stewardship. Rather than forcing production, we observe and respond to the natural cycles of growth, flowering and dormancy that shape the landscape throughout the year. This slower, more considered approach helps us cultivate botanicals with integrity while fostering a deeper connection to the land.

Chemical-free growing is another important part of our philosophy. We avoid synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers, choosing instead to support natural ecological balance wherever possible. By encouraging biodiversity and creating habitats for beneficial insects, birds and pollinators, we aim to nurture a healthy and resilient environment that benefits both the plants we grow and the wider ecosystem around us.

For us, growing botanicals is not simply about producing ingredients. It is about caring for the land that sustains them and recognising that healthy skin begins with a healthy earth.

Solar-Powered Production

Sustainability extends beyond the ingredients we grow. Rose & Co. operates from a dedicated 12kW solar system that powers our workshop and production processes, helping to reduce our reliance on conventional energy sources. From formulating and manufacturing to distillation and day-to-day operations, solar energy plays an important role in supporting a lower-impact approach to creating our products.

By harnessing the abundant Australian sunshine that nourishes our gardens, we are able to power much of the work that transforms our botanicals into skincare and perfume. It is one of the many ways we seek to align our production practices with the values that guide our brand — creating beautiful products with consideration for both people and planet.

While sustainability is an ongoing journey rather than a destination, investing in renewable energy is one practical step we have taken to reduce our environmental footprint and support a more resilient future.

Water Stewardship

Water is one of our most precious resources, and caring for it is an important part of how we operate. At Rose & Co., rainwater is consciously harvested and used throughout our growing and production processes, helping to reduce demand on external water supplies while making the most of a natural resource that falls directly onto our land.

Water also plays a central role in many of the products we create. Through the distillation of roses, citrus and other botanicals, we produce aromatic floral waters, known as hydrosols, which capture the water-soluble compounds and delicate essence of the plant. These hydrosols become valuable ingredients in our formulations, bringing both function and sensory beauty to the finished product.

By harvesting rainwater, growing thoughtfully and making use of every part of the distillation process, we seek to honour water not simply as an ingredient, but as a resource deserving of care and respect. It is another way we work to create products that are deeply connected to the natural systems from which they arise.

Packaging plays an important role in both the quality of our products and their environmental impact. Wherever possible, we choose materials that are durable, recyclable and designed to be reused long after the product itself has been enjoyed.

Many of our skincare products are housed in premium Miron Violet Glass. Unlike conventional clear or amber glass, Miron Violet Glass acts as a natural light filter, helping to protect delicate botanical ingredients from degradation caused by visible light while preserving their freshness, potency and aromatic integrity for longer. This additional protection supports the use of gentler preservation systems and helps maintain the quality of natural formulations over time.

We prioritise glass packaging not only for its protective qualities, but also because it is infinitely recyclable and highly reusable. From refill-worthy bottles to jars that can be repurposed around the home, we encourage customers to extend the life of our packaging wherever possible before recycling.

Reducing plastic is another ongoing focus. While some components such as pumps and closures may currently require mixed materials, we continually seek lower-impact alternatives and make conscious choices to minimise unnecessary packaging throughout our range.

For us, thoughtful packaging is about balancing product performance, sustainability and longevity — protecting the precious botanicals inside while reducing our impact on the environment outside.

Closing the Loop

In nature, nothing is wasted. We strive to follow the same principle throughout our growing and production processes.

After harvesting, distilling and extracting our botanicals, the remaining plant material is not discarded. Instead, it is returned to the land through our composting systems, where it breaks down naturally and contributes valuable organic matter back into the soil. From rose petals and citrus peel to spent herbs and distillation residues, these botanical materials become part of an ongoing cycle of renewal.

Our composting practices work alongside worm farms and regenerative growing methods to help build healthy, living soils that support future harvests. By returning nutrients to the earth, we reduce waste, improve soil health and honour the resources that have contributed to our products.

For us, sustainability is not simply about reducing impact; it is about creating systems that regenerate. Every harvest, every distillation and every extraction becomes part of a continuous cycle where the earth helps nourish our botanicals, and in turn, those botanicals help nourish the earth.

This commitment to closing the loop reflects our belief that beauty should leave a positive legacy — not only for the people who use our products, but also for the land from which they are created.

Small Batch Manufacturing

While large-scale manufacturing can prioritise volume and efficiency, we choose a slower approach that allows us to maintain close oversight of every stage of production.

Small-batch manufacturing helps minimise waste by ensuring products are made according to demand rather than produced in excessive quantities. This reduces the risk of unnecessary surplus while allowing us to work more thoughtfully with the precious botanical ingredients we use.

Producing in smaller batches also supports freshness. Many of our formulations contain delicate plant oils, floral waters, extracts and natural aromatic materials that are best enjoyed when produced and filled regularly. By manufacturing in smaller quantities, we are able to bring products to our customers at their freshest and most vibrant.

Equally important is quality control. Small-batch production allows us to carefully monitor every formulation, ensuring consistency, performance and attention to detail. From weighing ingredients and blending formulations to filling and packaging, each batch receives the hands-on care that is central to our philosophy.

For us, small-batch manufacturing is about more than quality. It is a conscious choice that supports sustainability, reduces waste and allows us to remain closely connected to every product we create.

Our Commitment

Sustainability is not a destination but an ongoing practice. As our gardens mature and our knowledge deepens, we remain committed to finding new ways to nurture both skin and earth.
